Fermata Music Therapy has several music therapy internship sites available in the GTA (Newmarket and Maple), with more to come.
Site: Long Term Care Centres, music therapy programme established, fully equipped with musical instruments.
Population: Elderly/ Dementia/ MS/ Depression/ Mental Health/ Palliative/ Cognitive Impairment/ Possibility of working with residents and their families.
Supervision: On and Off Site, fee paid by facility.
Hours: -22hrs/week
available at $13/hr.
-Additional hours available without pay
-Could be shared between more than one intern
Required of Intern: Individual and group work/Case Study/Team work/Provide Inservices/ Progress Notes/ Written Assessments/ Possible research/ Written report for newsletter at facility.
Provided to Intern: A realistic experience of working as a music therapist in private practice with a diverse client group. Support from supervisor both on and off site. The opportunity to be paid for the music therapy hours provided to the facilities.
About the Supervisor
Rachael Finnerty
MTA, PG Music Therapy, MA Social Science, began working as a music therapist
in 2001 after completing a post graduate course in Cambridge England. She
is currently working on her thesis to be awarded a MA in Music Therapy. She
has worked at almost all of the internship sites herself and is familiar with
the residents and staff. Rachael is currently employed by Sunnybrook and Women's
Hospital in Toronto.
