Internships and Contracts
Fermata Music Therapy offers interns the opportunity to individualize their internship experience to their needs and expectations, both professionally and personally.

Fermata helps the music therapy intern to determine what kind of internship experience would help to build the skills the intern requires to pursue his/her professional goals.

Most internship placements are paid, and the amount of hours and days available are flexible.  Supervision costs are covered by the internship placement while the intern is completing his/her internship hours.  Any additional supervision hours required after the internship hours have been completed will not be covered by the placement.

To apply for an internship please email your resume and a cover letter stating the following:
  • In what city would you like to complete your internship
  • What type of a facility
  • With what client group(s) would you like to work
  • How many hours per week are you available
  • What days are you available
  • When are you able to start

Most internships are currently set up at long term care facilities, and are in Hamilton and surrounding areas. Within these facilities there are opportunities to work with many of the following diagnosis:
  • Acquired Brain Injury
  • Post-Stroke
  • Various Stages of Dementia
  • Alzhiemer’s
  • Depression
  • Substance Abuse
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Palliative Care

If the music therapy intern would like to gain experience in a different setting, for example; school, hospital, rehabilitation centre.  Fermata will aid in creating an internship site at the intern’s place of preference.

After completing the internship, there will be the opportunity to sub-contract from Fermata.
