Rinske Salverda
Artist, Art Therapist
Rinske has extensive experience working as an Art Therapist. She incorporates her training and skills in a holistic, client-centred approach to assist people on their journey. Rinske achieved her certificate in Art Therapy from Arscura and is a graduate of George Brown College, having majored in addictions and mental health counselling. Additionally, she studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming at the Georgian Bay NLP Institute, as well as attended the School of Spiritual Psychology. She is a certified Reiki practitioner and has New Adult Learning certification. Rinske’s background also includes nursing and teaching at the elementary and secondary school levels.
Rinske and her clients work together through artistic and creative expression. The therapeutic art activity consists of clay, painting and drawing. Specific colours are utilized, which are dependent on a presenting issue. For example, the colour yellow is used to induce cheerfulness. Movement, story-telling, poetry, journaling, voice sounding, and drumming may also be included in the session.
While creating the artwork, silence is preferred. Therefore, Rinske’s style of art therapy is very appealing to persons who prefer not to speak too much or are unable to voice their issues. Rather than emphasizing the end result of the artwork, such as the painting, the focus is on the activity itself. No previous experience or talent with art is required.
Rinske’s empathy and her sensitivity enable her to establish a strong rapport with her clients. Through a series of sessions, clients reflect on their journey and gain a new persective.
